Kalam as a Student
Born in a middle class family at Rameshwaram, Dr.kalam spend most of childhood in the island. Later went to study B.Sc at St.Joseph 's , Triuchy. After that Engineering at Madras Institute of Technology [M.I.T] specializing in Aernautical Engineering.

Kalam as a Scientist
Starting his career as a rocket engineer at ISRO through sheer Hardwork he rose to become the project director
of SLV-3. It was India 's first indigenous satellite launch vehicle. By thorough perseverance he lead the team to
success after initial failure. Like his mentor he also attributes his success to his colleagues & his
dynamic team, especially the youth.
From there he moved to into DRDO. First assignment was Director, DRDL.
There started another Indigenous and most important defence project of the country - IGMDP (Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme).
IGMDP saw the birth of 5 new missile christened - Prithvi, Akash, Nag,Agni & Trishul.
Brief overview of the 5 missiles are :
- Nag - an anti-tank guided missile
- Prithvi - a surface-to-surface battlefield missile
- Akash - a swift, medium-range surface-to-air missile
- Trishul - a quick-reaction surface-to-air missile with a shorter range
