The family members of Mr
Jayachandra Naidu, an agriculturist from Govardhanagiri
village in Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh planned to build a new house at a
cost of around 15 lakhs. But Mr Naidu preferred to
renovate the existing house at a cost of Rs. one or two
lakhs and set apart the remaining amount to build his
village and to implement his 'three aspirations'.
Mr Naidu's three aspirations
are:
1. Remove caste identification from the hamlets of
Dalits and solemnise with new names
2. To ensure vedic flow into the houses of Dalits, and
3. To provide a common cremation ground for all
people.
Mr Naidu created a trust with
an initial amount of Rs. one million, being the money set
apart for building a new house. With this money, he
has provided a lot of schemes to offer assistance like
health insurance, money at the time of distress,
provide quality seeds at a nominal cost, provide margin
money to poor people to avail the house grant from the
Government, planting of fruit bearing trees in the name of
villagers, etc. The trust will be managed by the
villagers themsleves.
During the first week of
November 06, he launched the Trust which would benefit
around three thousand people of his village. He also solemnised four Dalit colonies with new names to avoid the residents being identified with some
caste name. This programme was attended by the
representatives of all political parties, and
Government officials, including the District Collector.
Mr Sharma, Secretary General
of All India Brahmin Federation and some of the Brahmin
priests performed religious ceremonies inside the house of
Dalits, to demonstrate the communal harmony. Mr
Naidu offered his family property of 3 acres as a
common cremation ground, to be used by all irrespective of
their caste and community.
Mr Naidu says that he has just
initiated the movement with the support of local people, to
bring 'self esteem' amongst the Dalits.
He would like to ensure that this message spreads along the
country. His journey of creating public
awareness will continue from his village to his District and
then to Andhra Pradesh and finally to the entire Nation.
